The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) saw some exciting cricket being played this week, though rains played spoilsport at times much to the disappointment of fans. Nevertheless, the quality of cricket was outstanding and the entertainment quotient in the CPL never lets us down.
Here we take a look at the top takeaways from this week:
WELCOME TO THE 500 CLUB, BRAVO
Dwayne ‘Champion’ Bravo made history in the match against the St Lucia Zouks where he became the first bowler in the history of T20 cricket to pick up 500 wickets. Alongside this landmark, Bravo notched up 100 wickets in the CPL, a feat no other bowler has managed to achieve. His numbers in T20 cricket are incredible and at 36, he keeps exceeding expectations. He is arguably the real G.O.A.T of T20 cricket and he isn’t done yet!
TRINBAGO CONTINUE UNBEATEN STREAK
Trinbago Knight Riders are currently unbeaten in CPL 2020 with five wins under their belt. They had two matches this week and both were interrupted by rain. In the nine-over chase against St. Lucia Zouks, they managed to chase down the target of 72 with six wickets in hand and that marked their fourth win of the campaign. The match against Guyana Amazon Warriors went exactly to plan as again they managed to chase a modest total of 113 with ease. The combination of Darren Bravo and Colin Munro with the bat has been devastating. Trinbago were the favourites to win the title and are playing like one.
PRAVIN TAMBE MAKES HIS DEBUT
The 48-year old Mumbaikar, Pravin Tambe made history as he became the first Indian to play in the CPL, when he featured in the match against St. Lucia Zouks. In a rain-curtailed match, he bowled just a solitary over for Trinbago Knight Riders and picked up his first wicket of the competition.
100 SIXES FOR DARREN BRAVO
This will be a pleasant surprise for the fans of Darren Bravo, a player who is known as a red-ball specialist. He has joined the likes of Lendl Simmons, Kieron Pollard, Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle for smashing more than 100 sixes in the history of the CPL. He has hit more than 20 sixes in three different CPL seasons. In the 2018 edition, he was the joint-second in terms of six-hitting with 24 maximums. Darren Bravo is also one of the few batsmen who has more sixes to his tally in CPL than boundaries.
MOHAMMAD NABI GETS A FIVE-FOR
The wily old off-spinner Mohammad Nabi is phenomenal in T20 cricket. Yet another display of his skills with the ball was apparent in the match against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Nabi picked up two in the very first over of the game and followed that up with two more in the following over. He completed his five-wicket haul in the seventeenth over and finished the innings with his career-best, 5/15. He deservedly was the Man of the Match winner in that game as the Zouks won by 6 wickets.
