Raphinha To Bamford: Leeds United Player of the Season Contenders

Leeds United’s first season back in the Premier League has gone according to the script as the Whites are fighting hard for a top-half finish on their return to the top-flight of English football after a hiatus of 16 long years. There have been some standout players in their journey this season but only one can win the Player of the Season Award. We look at the top contenders for the award at the end of the season which includes the likes of Raphinha, Patrick Bamford and others.

The Brazilian winger, Raphinha was signed from the French side Stade Rennais in the summer and has been one of the signings of the season so far in the Premier League. His impact at Elland Road has been acknowledged by many pundits across the country and it seems like Raphinha is on the radar of the traditional top six clubs in the Premier League.

In 23 Premier League appearances, Raphinha has found the back of the net five times along with five assists. He is a constant threat on either wing for the Whites and is a proper challenge for the wingback he is up against.

In a year where injuries have derailed seasons of many teams, Leeds have also had their fair share of injuries but one man who has been ever-present is Luke Ayling. He is one of the leaders in the squad and leads by example on the pitch. He has been deployed as a right-back for the majority of the season which is his usual position but has also provided cover at the centre-half position time and again.

He has helped his team keep eight clean sheets in the 28 matches they have played and is one of the most accurate passers in the league. Most of Leeds’ build-up play comes through Ayling on the right side of the pitch and his energy on that position is excellent.

Manchester City loanee, Jack Harrison has shown that he belongs to this level of English football. He is a hard worker on the pitch and runs all the time. There is a famous quote by Peter Drury that Jack Harrison doesn’t believe in jogging but sprints all the time. That is true if you observe Harrison closely on the football pitch.

He is a madman when it comes to pressing from the forward line and contributes to some wonderful goals as well. He has scored six times in 27 matches and has provided four assists as well.

Stuart Dallas is a player any manager would love to have in their squad. The Northern Ireland player can play different positions on the pitch and Marcelo Bielsa seems to have used him to the best of his abilities.

He is the man for a crisis situation and gives his all irrespective of the position he is deployed on. He chips in with some valuable goals as well time and again. He has scored five times so far in the season and has two assists to go along with that.

Patrick Bamford has proved that he is a top-quality striker and belongs in the Premier League. His goal returns in the season have shown that he is one of the best English strikers in the league and deserves a call up to the national team for the European Championship.

He is fifth on the Golden Boot Award list and can compete for the award till the last matchday in the league. He has netted 13 times in the Premier League and has also provided five assists in the 28 matches.
