Premier League: Sergio Aguero’s Manchester City Career In Numbers

After 10 long and successful years with Manchester City, Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero has decided to move on with his contract expiring this year. He made a final 15-minute cameo appearance in the final of the Champions League that Manchester City lost to Chelsea.

“A new stage with new challenges will begin, and I am fully ready to face them with the same passion and professionalism that I have always dedicated to continue competing at the highest level,” said Aguero on the day Manchester City made the surprise announcement.

It’s safe to say that his decade-long relationship with Manchester City, one that ended with them winning the EPL title in the 2020/21 season, has been a resounding success. Let’s take a look at some key stats and figures from Aguero’s career with the club.

SERGIO AGUERO: HIS ARRIVAL AND IMPACT ON MANCHESTER CITY’S FORTUNES

When Aguero arrived to Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2011, they were on the brink of finding national success. The process had begun two years earlier when Abu Dhabi United Group under Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan bought the club and began investing heavily into resources.

On  May 2012, City scored twice in stoppage time to deny arch-rivals Manchester United on the final matchday. Martin Tyler’s now iconic and etched into football’s folklore ‘”Agueroooooooooo!” rang loud in the minds of football fans all over the world.

With his last kick of the game in his very first season with the club, the Argentine striker found the back of the net and took off his shirt to celebrate with his teammates as the fans inside Manchester Stadium went wild since they had just won their first Premier League title in 44 years in dramatic fashion!

Since then, Sergio Aguero has gone on to win four more Premier League medals and now leaves the club as the highest goalscorer in the history of Manchester City. Along with Vincent Kompany, David Silva, and Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero is responsible for putting City in the bracket of elite clubs in Europe following their mediocre history up until the late 2000s.
