Premier League Matchweek 8: Team of the Week

Premier League matchweek 8 was filled with action-packed matches throughout the weekend and saw some teams picking points while some losing out on important ones. There were a few standout matches from the gameweek and some of the players took centre stage in these clutch situations. So we’ve filtered through all ten matches from the Premier League matchweek 8 and come up with our combined best XI.

Here’s how the team has shaped up. Do let us know whom you would take in your fantasy team before the upcoming matchweek.

EDOUARD MENDY (Goalkeeper)

Club: Chelsea

Chelsea were eventual winners against their fellow London club Brentford but Thomas Tuchel’s team would have plenty of admiration for what their custodian Edouard Mendy was able to pull off in this game. More often than not he was the last barrier for the Brentford side and one they failed to break in this game.

TINO LIVRAMENTO (Right Wing-Back)

Club: Southampton

The 18-year-old Southampton right-back Tino Livramento stepped up yet again in the crucial game against Leeds United to help the Saints get their first victory of the season. The English defender was solid defensively and put a great shift in to win the ‘King of the Match’ award.

CONOR COADY (Centre-Back)

Club: Wolverhampton Wanderers

The captain needs to step up for a football club in matches where the team needs him the most and that’s exactly what Conor Coady was able to pull off in an incredible 2-3 victory over Aston Villa. Coady stepped up from a set-piece situation and scored a vital equaliser in the 85th minute.

ANGELO OGBONNA (Centre-Back)

Club: West Ham United

Another centre-back who made his way on the scoresheet this week was West Ham’s big man Angelo Ogbonna. His goal was the difference between the two sides in this encounter and his defensive resilience helped the Hammers keep a clean sheet as well over Everton.

ROMAIN SAISS (Centre-Back)

Club: Wolverhampton Wanderers

Romain Saiss brought Wolves back in a match where the team was struggling to get going. The centre-back scored in the 80th minute to get one goal back for his team and string together one of the best comebacks in this Premier League season so far.

BEN CHILWELL (Left Wing-Back)

Club: Chelsea

Ever since a disappointing campaign on a personal note, Ben Chilwell, the Chelsea left-back has been out of favour given how well Marcos Alonso has played in that position. He was given an odd start in this match against Brentford and Chilwell made the most of it. He scored the only goal of the match which was also his first of the season.

YOURI TIELEMENS (Centre Midfielder)

Club: Leicester City

Youri Tielemens loves stepping up against Manchester United and

he had yet another memorable outing in the most recent match between the two clubs. David de Gea, United’s keeper, has been tough to score against and it needed a screamer from Tielemens to get a goal past the keeper.

RUBEN NEVES (Centre Midfielder)

Club: Wolverhampton Wanderers

Talking about special moments, Ruben Neves would like to revisit the goal at Villa Park quite often in the future. With almost the last kick of the game, Neves stepped up from a free-kick and showed his class to clinch all three points for Wolves.

MOHAMED SALAH (Right Winger)

Club: Liverpool

Name a player who is in better form than Mohamed Salah in the world? We’ll help you with this answer, there’s nobody. That’s how dominant Salah has been recently in the league and Watford’s defender Danny Rose would have had the worst possible job in this matchweek, trying to stop Salah. But there was no stopping the Liverpool winger as he set one goal up for Sadio Mane and scored an outrageous one himself.

ROBERTO FIRMINO (Striker)

Club: Liverpool

Sticking with Liverpool, another forward who is in decent shape currently is Roberto Firmino who scored three goals against Watford to take the match ball home with him.

HEUNG-MIN SON (Left Winger)

Club: Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have been struggling recently but one player who has been in top form has been their winger Heung-min Son. He yet again got on the scoresheet and helped Tottenham spoil Newcastle’s party after the takeover.

Premier League matchweek 8 Team of the Week (5-2-3): Edouard Mendy (GK), Tino Livrramento, Conor Coady, Angelo Ogbonna, Romain Saiss, Ben Chilwell; Youri Tielemens, Ruben Neves, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Heung-min Son
