It has been an exciting winter transfer window in the Premier League as the English clubs have been able to attract few of the most exciting names in European football this January. Players like Luis Diaz who nobody expected to move in the middle of the season have seen a big-money transfer to the Premier League and would play in the red of Liverpool for the next five and a half years.
Such is the lure of the Premier League that even though it is in the middle of the season when the English clubs come calling, players across Europe can’t say no. Here are five new faces that would be refreshing to see in the Premier League for the rest of the season.
LUIS DIAZ (Liverpool)
Liverpool have been tracking the Colombian winger Luis Diaz for many years now but wanted to make a move for the former Porto forward in the summer. When they heard the news of fellow English club Tottenham Hotspur finalising the deal for the winger, Liverpool swooped in and hijacked the deal.
In the end, Luis Diaz is wearing the number 23 at Liverpool after this transfer window and has already created an impact in his cameo against Cardiff City in the FA Cup. The 25-year-old winger is a late bloomer but is one of the most sought after talents in Europe. At around 45 million, Liverpool have found a gem in Diaz and one who would give the likes of Sadio Mane and
Diogo Jota a run for the money for a place in the XI.
BRUNO GUIMARÃES (Newcastle United)
Newcastle fans can be satisfied with the way the winter transfer window transpired for them. There was a dearth of creativity in that team and to fill that hole, Eddie Howe went for the Brazilian playmaker Bruno Guimaraes. The 24-year-old creative midfielder was signed from French side Lyon for roughly 35 million and became the most expensive signing in Newcastle’s history. The Magpies would be hoping to see some of his Brazilian flair on the pitch as they would try their level best to survive this season’s relegation battle.
DEJAN KULUSEVSKI (Tottenham Hotspur)
New Spurs signing Dejan Kulusevski became a Tottenham player just because of the presence of Antonio Conte as the manager of the London club. The 21-year-old winger/midfielder joined Tottenham after having 74 appearances for Italian club Juventus.
The Swedish forward has joined on a loan deal that runs till the end of the 2023 season with an option to buy. He hopes to form a lethal partnership with star forward Harry Kane at the club going forward.
WOUT WEGHORST (Burnley)
After losing Chris Wood to Newcastle, Burnley went shopping in Germany and roped in a 29-year-old Dutch striker from Wolfsburg, Wout Weghorst. The striker is built exactly for the role Sean Dyche wants to deploy at Burnley as a centre-forward and looks like a proper replacement for Wood.
Weghorst has scored 59 times in the Bundesliga previously and would be hoping to set the Premier League on fire as soon as possible in the coming future.
RODRIGO BENTANCUR (Tottenham Hotspur)
Rodrigo Bentancur had an impressive display in his debut performance for Spurs in a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup. He played for only the last 15 minutes but Spurs fans were overjoyed with what the midfielder produced in that short period.
Bentancur is just 24-years-old but has 181 appearances for Juventus. So he brings a fair share of experience to the club. The Uruguayan international was another player that joined the club because of Conte’s presence and can be the key for Tottenham in their pursuit of a top-four finish.
