Jose Sa to Vardy: Premier League Matchweek 6 Team Of The Week

Matchweek 6 of the 2021-22 Premier League season was filled with some intriguing fixtures and gave us interesting results. Manchester City’s win at Stamford Bridge was the headline of the week along with Arsenal’s thumping win in the North London Derby. But along with these top results, one shouldn’t forget Wolves’ keeper Jose Sa’s winning assist to Raul Jimenez in their win over Southampton away from home.

Here we’ve picked the 11 standout players from matchweek 6 in our team of the week.

JOSE SA (Goalkeeper)

Club: Wolverhampton Wanderers

As mentioned earlier, Wolves’ keeper Jose Sa now has more assists than some of the prominent midfielders in this league. He set up the winning goal for Raul Jimenez but along with that pulled some crucial saves in the pursuit of the clean sheet against Southampton.

Club: Aston Villa

Matthew Cash makes our team of the week yet again. But this time for his throw-in ability more than anything. He took the gamble of going across the pitch late in the second half to take a long throw-in and that resulted in the corner that got Villa their winning goal.

Club: Aston Villa

Kortney Hause came into the Aston Villa starting lineup as the replacement for the ineligible Axel Tuanzebe. Villa have been dominant from set-pieces throughout the season and it was yet another goal from a corner scored by centre-back Kortney Hause that helped them pick three crucial points at Old Trafford.

RUBEN DIAS (Centre-Back)

Club: Manchester City

Manchester City’s centre-back Ruben Dias put in a captain’s performance at Stamford Bridge and did exceptionally well to keep Romelu Lukaku quiet throughout the 90 minutes.

Club: Manchester City

In some months, people would forget that Joao Cancelo is actually a right-back and not a makeshift left-back. Such has been his performance in the left-back position. He was outstanding yet again in the match against Chelsea.

BUKAYO SAKA (Right-Midfielder)

Club: Arsenal

Bukayo Saka had a field day at the Emirates stadium against their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs’ tactics ensured that there was plenty of space in the midfield for the likes of Saka to exploit and the young winger did exactly that. He had a goal and an assist in this match to show for it.

BERNARDO SILVA (Centre-Midfielder)

Club: Manchester City

Arguably the Man of the Match contender in the game against Chelsea. Bernardo Silva was deployed as a number eight in this game, a position that isn’t his preferred position on the field. Silva put in an incredible effort in the midfield and was influential both defensively and offensively.

ABDOULAYE DOUCOURE (Centre-Midfielder)

Club: Everton

Abdoulaye Doucoure is a bundle of energy in the midfield and was at his best in the match against Norwich City. He gave the Canaries’ midfield barely any time in the middle of the park and he himself went on to score a goal with a perfectly timed run in the box.

EMILE SMITH ROWE (Left-Midfielder)

Club: Arsenal

Another young Gunner who had a field day in the derby against Spurs was the 21-year-old winger Emile Smith Rowe. He scored a wonderful goal and deserved to be the most valuable player on the pitch in this game.

Club: Wolverhampton Wanderers

This matchweek may have seen plenty of world-class goals but none were more significant than Raul Jimenez’s outstanding goal against Southampton. Raul missed the majority of the last season due to a horrific injury he picked up in the match against Arsenal. This marked his first goal since his return and the whole football world would have been delighted to see him get back on the scoresheet.

Club: Leicester City

The fox in the box, Jamie Vardy scored a brace for the Foxes in a 2-2 draw against Burnley. He actually scored a hat-trick in this game but unfortunately for Vardy, one was on the wrong end. However, he bounced back brilliantly in typical Vardy fashion.

Matchweek 4 Team of the week (4-4-2): Jose Sa (GK); Matthew Cash, Kortney Hause, Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo; Abdoulaye Doucoure, Bernardo Silva, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe; Raul Jimenez, Jamie Vardy
