De Gea to Cancelo: Best Players In Premier League Matchweek 3

Matchweek 3 of Premier League 2021-22 started and finished with a bang. Before club football took a break due to the first international window of the season, we saw Tottenham Hotspur’s clean win record putting them atop the table while Arsenal’s disastrous start saw them languishing at the bottom.

From Manchester City’s destructive start to Manchester United’s thrilling finish, we look at the top XI players that made a mark in Matchweek 3 of the Premier League 2021-22 season.


DAVID DE GEA (Goalkeeper)

Club: Manchester United

Regarded as one of the best in the world, David De Gea was back to his old self against Wolves as he pulled off some astonishing saves and showed great reflexive skills to ensure United’s win. His double save late in the game helped United keep a clean sheet and in the process register an English record of most consecutive away wins by a club – 28.



Club: Chelsea FC

The skipper led the Blues from the front as a 10-man Chelsea managed to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield. He kept Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson under check throughout and was the man with most tackles and clearances in the match for Chelsea.



Club: Chelsea FC

The Danish centre-back, who was once not considered good enough for Chelsea, came up with a solid performance at Anfield. Being one man down against Liverpool, he stood like a rock against the opposition and ensured the hosts didn’t get all three points.

Another Chelsea man makes it to our list for his top defensive show against a sturdy Liverpool. Barring the penalty, Rudiger kept Mohamed Salah under check at all times, even when one man down, to ensure the Blues took back one solid away point from the fixture.



Club: Manchester City

The versatile full-back showed his class yet again as he was phenomenal down the left for City before switching over to the right against Arsenal. His connection with Jack Grealish was something which caught the attention of many and is sure to worry the best of managers in the Premier League this season.



Club: Crystal Palace

The 21-year-old was a man in form against West Ham United. The youngster scored a fine brace and helped the Eagles to comeback twice into the game against a solid West Ham and ensured Crystal Palace registered a point to their name. 


PAUL POGBA (Midfielder)

Club: Manchester United

Paul Pogba started the new season brilliantly with four assists, and was one of the few sparks from United’s side in their display against Wolves. Apart from the controversial call that led to the winning goal, Pogba continued to dominate the midfield and tried to cover both defence and attack. United weren’t at their best, but Pogba managed to hold the fort with thorough grace. 


FERRAN TORRES (Midfielder)

Club: Manchester City

The Spanish ace was on the forefront in City’s 5-0 demolition of Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. His continuous runs were enough to dismantle the Gunners’ defence and he ended the day by adding two goals to his individual tally.



Club: Manchester City 

The man who was deemed untouchable in the market by Pep Guardiola showed his worth once again in the fixture against Arsenal. The Brazilian got a goal and assist to his name and seem to have found his momentum this season, a great news for the City faithful. 



Club: Manchester United

A generational talent as some call him, the youngster rose to the occasion against Wolves and delivered for the Red Devils when needed the most. His late strike, his third in three games, sealed the deal for United and helped them go third on the points table with 7 points to their name.



Club: West Ham United

Michail Antonio again makes a place for himself in this week’s Team of the Week. On the back of his hat-trick against Leicester City, West Ham’s all-time Premier League top-scorer was once again in the spotlight as he assisted for the first goal and later added one to his tally with a scrumptious left foot finish.
