Arsenal to Chelsea: Five Biggest Premier League Spenders in 2022

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are building a strong squad ahead of the new season. With over 132 million euros splashed already on six players in the summer by the Gunners, they rank as Europe’s biggest spenders in the transfer market in 2022. There are four other Premier League clubs along with Arsenal who haven’t been shy of spending their money either.

Let’s find out who they are.

ARSENAL (132 Million Euros)

Arsenal have gone big on players with relative Premier League experience with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko. They have also managed to secure the signature of a young talented attacking midfielder, Fabio Vieira who will add creativity to the forward line. Overall, the team is shaping up pretty well for Arteta. It is a young team that has a tough season ahead of them as they’ll be competing in the Europa League as well as fighting to finish in the top four in the Premier League.

MANCHESTER CITY (109 Million Euros)

It isn’t surprising to see Manchester City making this list given all their riches but what is surprising is that they have let go of some of the regulars from the previous season. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko were all starters for Pep Guardiola but have moved away to fellow Premier League rivals.

City haven’t stayed quiet though, with all the selling they were pretty active in the transfer market themselves as they secured the signings of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez. Three players around who the team could build around for the future.

LEEDS UNITED (105.5 Million Euros)

Leeds United have lost a few of its key players from their previous seasons, the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha who were their biggest stars have decided to move away for other challenges in their careers. There is a massive rebuilding project in front of Jesse Marsch and his team and he hasn’t wasted any time in identifying the prospective replacements for these players.

Given the kind of players they have brought in, it gives us an impression that Marsch is pretty clear about the kind of profile he wants in a player. The club has brought in Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca ahead of the new season, all young and exciting players who could be the perfect fit for life in the Premier League.

TOTTENHAM (102 Million Euros)

Tottenham under Antonio Conte started making strides in the previous season itself when they managed to finish in the Champions League spot for the upcoming season. Qualification to the Champions League has helped the club attract top players from across Europe.

Spurs have had a solid transfer window already by roping in the likes of Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Foster and Clement Lenglet on loan. Apart from Steven Bergwijn, there haven’t been many high-profile sales. That means that Conte has kept the core intact and has added quality by spending over 100 million euros in the market.

CHELSEA (94 Million Euros)

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea have had a frustrating season in the transfer market so far. The kind of players the club wanted to sign have gone to various clubs, the majority to Barcelona. On top of that, they have loaned out the big-money striker Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan.

Still, they have been able to add to the squad by getting top European players like Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. Something tells us that the club aren’t quite done in the transfer market yet and one can expect some big names to join the blue side of London.
