Premier League: Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur is easily the most-awaited clash of Premier League‘s gameweek 10 as Frank Lampard’s free-scoring side host Jose Mourinho’s clinical men on Sunday, November 29, at Stamford Bridge.

With Tottenham Hotspur leading the table with 20 points and Chelsea sitting third with 18 points, Sunday’s London derby could very well determine the table-toppers at the end of the game week.

The London clubs have faced each other 167 times so far, with Chelsea winning 72 of those clashes and losing 55 times. Only 40 of those Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur matches have ended in draws, with the last draw between them coming back in 2016.

Chelsea FC

Expected to bombard the Premier League with goals, especially after their high-spending summer transfer window, Chelsea have taken their time to get into the rhythm. Their winning run has been interrupted by a solitary defeat to Liverpool, while West Bromwich Albion, Southampton and Manchester United have been draws. However, with wins on the trot against Burnley, Sheffield United and Newcastle United, the Blues have seemingly settled in. Chelsea might be handed an injury boost in the form of Christian Pulisic who was struggling with a hamstring injury.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have been uncharacteristically consistent this season. Starting the season with a 1-0 loss to Everton, Jose Mourinho seemed destined for yet another failed Premier League managerial stint. However, Spurs have since stayed unbeaten – winning six matches and drawing two. Their last PL win over Manchester City has given them a tremendous boost.

However, Mourinho will be without defenders Toby Alderweireld and Matt Doherty, and midfielders Eric Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso for the big clash.

Predicted XI

Chelsea (4-3-3): Edouard Mendy (GK); Reece James, Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger, Ben Chilwell; N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic; Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham

Tottenham Hotspur (4-2-3-1): Hugo Lloris (GK); Serge Aurier, Eric Dier, Joe Rodon, Sergio Reguilon; Pierre Emile-Hojberg, Moussa Sissoko; Heung-min Son, Tanguy Ndombele, Steven Bergwijn; Harry Kane

Players to watch

Chelsea have had their goals distributed amongst their range of creative and attacking players. While striker Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham have been their top scorers with four and three goals respectively, the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Jorginho and Mason Mount have also contributed regularly.

For Spurs, the biggest source of threat will obviously be Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. The striking pair has been directly involved in a mind-boggling 27 goals so far this season. No other Spurs player has come close with their contributions although full-backs Aurier and Reguilon have been an integral part of Mourinho’s philosophy this season.
