Pogba to Suarez: Top Players Who Would Be Free Agents in 2022

The January transfer window is almost over and even if the big players weren’t on the move in the window, there could be headline signings in the coming six months as top players like Paul Pogba or Luis Suarez are running down their contracts for now. The players would become free agents at the end of the season and can start negotiations with any club they want as there are less than six months left on their current contract.

There are some huge names on the list and here we have shortlisted five key ones to look out for.

PAUL POGBA (Midfielder)

After being bought for over 100 million in the summer of 2016, Paul Pogba’s return to England with Manchester United failed to take off. It has been a stint filled with controversies, injuries and coincided with a few managers losing their job at Old Trafford. He was seen as one of the best players in the world but now struggles to make it to the United XI as well. So with his contract up in the summer, Pogba is on the lookout for a new challenge. A return to Turin seems likely as Juventus love getting players on a free transfer. Barcelona are admirers of Pogba’s talents as well and that could be a potential destination for the French midfielder as well.

ANTONIO RUDIGER (Defender)

Antonio Rudiger has been one of the in-form centre-backs in Europe ever since Thomas Tuchel took over at Chelsea. He has played like a lion in the three at the back system and Tuchel has always been keen on Rudiger so much so that he wanted to sign him for PSG when he was the manager at the French club. So it comes as a surprise that Rudiger isn’t willing to sign an extension with Chelsea. He has been playing his best football in a Chelsea shirt and collectively they have tasted success as well. If Rudiger was to move in the summer, clubs like PSG, Juventus and Real Madrid would be keen on securing his signature.

FRANCK KESSIE (Midfielder)

AC Milan’s midfielder Franck Kessie is one of the most sought after young midfielders in the world currently. He has grown leaps and bounds when it comes to his role on the pitch and a big move is on the horizon for the Ivory Coast midfielder. AC Milan won’t be able to match the salary expectations of Kessie and want to keep him till the end of the season in their pursuit of the Serie A title. There would be plenty of options for Kessie to consider post the season as the majority of the interest would be from the Premier League. However, it is rumoured that Barcelona might swoop in and sway the midfielder to Spain potentially.

KYLIAN MBAPPE (Forward)

Talking about the most sought after young talents, there is none better than Kylian Mbappe. The French forward is one of the highest value players in the market and it is a shame for PSG that Mbappe has reached the last six months of his contract. Mbappe has been a childhood Real Madrid fan and that seems to be his dream move, however, he would be keeping an eye out on the managerial position at the Spanish giant.

LUIS SUAREZ (Forward)

After signing for Atletico Madrid from Barcelona in 2020 on a two-year contract, Luis Suarez is reportedly keen on renewing his deal at the Wanda Metropolitano but things seem complicated from the outside. Suarez is 34 currently and at that age, contracts seem to get harder to come by. There were reports that Steven Gerrard wanted the Uruguayan striker at Aston Villa. It would be outstanding to see Suarez lighting up English stadiums next season if the deal goes through.
