The past few months have been extremely busy in terms of player transfers in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). With the league expected to start in late November this year and Goa having received the hosting rights for the entire season, the clubs have picked up pace to get the best players on board for 2020-21.
There have been many high profile player transfers in the past month and here we take a look at the major ones.
NISHU KUMAR TO KERALA BLASTERS FC
Indian international and versatile defender Nishu Kumar has signed a four-year contract with Kerala Blasters FC ahead of the upcoming ISL season. The boy from Muzaffarnagar has made it big in Indian football and is considered as one of the most promising full-backs in the country. He enjoyed a great stint with Bengaluru FC, winning the 2018-19 Hero ISL trophy and the Hero Super Cup. This deal would make him the highest-paid Indian defender in the league. By signing Nishu, Kerala have made it clear that they want a fresh start under new coach Kibu Vicuna. They have recently let go of their star player and club captain, Bartholomew Ogbeche as well.
NERIJUS VALSKIS TO JAMSHEDPUR FC
Last year’s Golden Boot winner, Nerijus Valskis will wear the number nine jersey for Jamshedpur FC next season. Jamshedpur have been one of the most active teams when it comes to player transfers in this window. They started it all with roping in Owen Coyle as the new head coach for the club. When Valskis got an opportunity to reconnect with his former coach, he didn’t think twice. The Lithuanian is a proven goalscorer in the league and will certainly excel in a football-crazy city like Jamshedpur.
SUBHASISH BOSE TO ATK MOHUN BAGAN
One of the worst-kept secrets finally went through when Subhasish Bose signed a five-year contract with ATK Mohun Bagan earlier this month. The full-back has been a part of the ISL since 2017, when he reached the final of the competition with his former club Bengaluru FC. He spent the last two years at Mumbai City FC and looked all set to move to ATK Mohun Bagan when the merger was announced. The legacy of Mohun Bagan would have been a big factor for Subhasish who hails from the city.
JACKICHAND SINGH TO JAMSHEDPUR FC
Jackichand Singh was another high-profile player transfer for Jamshedpur as he signed a three-year deal with the Red Miners. The star winger is super pacey and a constant threat in front of the goal. The 28-year old has an abundance of experience in Indian football having represented FC Pune City, Salgaocar FC, Mumbai City FC, East Bengal, Kerala Blasters and FC Goa before joining Jamshedpur.
MANVIR SINGH TO ATK MOHUN BAGAN
Manvir Singh is hailed as the next big thing in Indian football. It’s inevitable that he’ll be given the chance to fill the big boots of Sunil Chhetri, when the latter calls it a day on his glorious career. He has signed a three-year contract with ATK Mohun Bagan and will prosper with the likes of Roy Krishna, Edu Garcia and Jobby Justin around him. He needs to improve his goalscoring record as he has netted only three times for his former club FC Goa, but will certainly be given more chances to flourish at his new club.
HALICHARAN NARZARY TO HYDERABAD FC
Hyderabad FC is another club which is looking to start afresh with the launch of its new logo and getting some high profile player transfers done. In recent news, they partnered with German giants Borussia Dortmund and entered into a multi-year association. The 26-year old winger, Narzary will join Subrata Paul as the second new arrival at Hyderabad FC this season and brings in tremendous experience to the squad. He is an international player and was a part of the SAFF Championship winning team. He suffered injuries the previous season with Kerala Blasters and will look to get his career back on track with this move.
