Revised Fixture List for Hero ISL 2021-22

The Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), organisers of the 2021-22 Hero ISL, announced the revised fixture list for the remainder of the season on Wednesday, February 2. There had been five matches previously that were postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in various camps. The revised schedule incorporates those matches and will be in effect from February 9.

There will be three additional double-headers, all on Saturdays (February 19, February 26, and March 5) to accommodate the five games that were postponed. The league stage would end at the iconic Fatorda Stadium, with ATK Mohun Bagan taking on Jamshedpur FC on March 7.

Post that, the tournament would enter its knockout stages, with the semi-finals being played over two legs and the all-important final to crown the ultimate winner.

The league is in a highly competitive stage currently with more than half of the teams competing for a top-four finish. Even the battle for the Hero ISL Shield is intense, with around four to five teams that can realistically clinch the coveted AFC Champions League spot for the 2023 season.

Teams like Kerala Blasters, Jamshedpur FC and ATK Mohun Bagan were amongst the worst hit clubs by the pandemic so are lagging behind the rest with fewer matches played at the current stage. These three teams in particular have a gruelling five weeks ahead.

The clash at the Bambolim on February 10 between Shield contenders, Jamshedpur FC and Kerala Blasters FC promises to be a mouthwatering contest. On February 19, the two teams that went head to head in the season opener would lock horns again at the Tilak Maidan Stadium as Kerala Blasters take on ATK Mohun Bagan. The Blasters fans will be hoping for revenge after that 4-2 defeat in the opener.

March 5 would mark the last league match for the current leaders, Hyderabad FC and they would be taking on the defending champions Mumbai City FC. Manolo Marquez’s Nizams would be eyeing to clinch the top spot in this encounter, while Des Buckingham and his men would have plans to spoil Hyderabad’s party.

There’s plenty of riveting football action to look forward to in the Indian footballing circuit with the Hero ISL approaching its business end. Fans would be glued to their television screens throughout these five remaining weeks to see who emerges on top in such a competitive season.
