Bartholomew Ogebche scripted history in the Hero Indian Super League with his brace against NorthEast United to become the all-time leading goalscorer in the league. The former PSG striker leads the way with 49 career goals in India’s premier football league but the competition for the ultimate crown is fierce.
Here we’re looking at the top goalscorers in the league’s history.
BARTHOLOMEW OGBECHE (49 Goals)
Hyderabad FC’s marksman Bartholomew Ogebeche recently became the all-time top goalscorer of the Hero ISL with 49 goals to his name in 70 appearances. Ogbeche has represented three clubs in the league as his stint in India began with NorthEast United, and then he moved down south to join Kerala Blasters FC. After breaking goal records at both clubs, he joined Mumbai City FC for the 2020-21 season where he won the Hero ISL Shield as well as the league trophy. Hyderabad FC came calling for the Nigerian striker ahead of the current season and he now leads the race for the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season.
FERRAN COROMINAS (48 Goals)
A veteran from the Spanish league, Ferran Corominans became a household name in Indian football as he joined FC Goa in the 2017-18 season. With 34 goals in 40 matches, the striker won the Golden Boot in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Overall Coro has 48 goals in the Hero ISL in just 57 matches. If you look at just the goal conversion rate, Coro is miles ahead of any striker who has played in the league.
SUNIL CHHETRI (48 Goals)
Indian captain and legend, Sunil Chhetri currently is the joint-second highest goalscorer in the league and would be hoping to overtake Ogbeche as well in the remainder of the season. Chhetri’s love with the Hero ISL began in the 2015 season with Mumbai City FC, however, it is his time with Bengaluru FC that has brought him the most success in the league.
ROY KRISHNA (33 Goals)
After dominating the A-League, Roy Krishna made his way to India in the 2019-20 season with ATK FC and then ATK Mohun Bagan, and it is incredible the kind of impact he has had on the league already. In just 54 matches, Roy Krishna has already found the back of the net 33 times. The striker from Fiji is one of the most lethal finishers going around in the league and would be hoping to end up as the all-time highest goalscorer of the league if he stays around for another season or so.
MARCELINHO (33 Goals)
Just when fans thought they had seen the last of ‘Marce Magic’ in the Hero ISL, NorthEast United went out of their way to get the Brazilian playmaker back in the league. He joined the league in 2016 with Delhi Dynamos FC and finished as the top scorer in the league in that particular season. The 2017-18 season was no different as Marcelinho became the top goal contributor for FC Pune City. Post the discontinuation of the club, Marcelinho represented Hyderabad FC and Odisha FC. Now for the 2021-22 season, the midfielder has found a new home in the NorthEast.
