Numbers Behind the Best ISL Striker Ever – Ferran Corominas

Ferran Corominas arrived in India for the 2017-18 Indian Super League (ISL) season and ever since, he has been by far the best marksman in the league. The 37-year-old Spaniard is the all-time highest goalscorer in the ISL with 48 goals to his name.

His numbers in the three seasons he has had with FC Goa is exceptional and he is an absolute goal machine. He has been a pivotal player for the Gaurs under their former coach Sergio Lobera and together they revolutionized the way football is played in the ISL. Prior to Lobera’s appointment, nobody in India could have envisaged the beautiful attacking possession-based football filled with plenty of goals. Coro was at the centre of this revolution and was the goal poacher this team needed.

His numbers are absolutely mind-boggling and the accolades he has achieved in just three seasons at the club shows us the pure quality of the marksman. Let’s dig deep in his numbers and some of the major honours he has been able to win with FC Goa in Indian Football.

A KNACK FOR INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

In three seasons at the club, Ferran Corominas won two Golden Boot Awards in 2017-18 and 2018-19, becoming the only player to win it in back-to-back seasons. He’s been a one-club player so far and is only the second foreign player to register more than 50 matches for one team in the league.

HAT-TRICK KING

In his debut season, he became the first player to score consecutive hat-tricks in the competition. In the same season, he also went on to score the fastest hat-trick the league has ever seen in just 7 minutes. He till date remains the only player to win two Golden Boot Awards in the competition.

A COMPLETE ‘SCORO’MINAS

It feels like his goal-scoring stats are too good to be true. Here are some of his records:

  • He has scored the most penalties by a foreign player in ISL history.
  • He is a ‘fox in the box’ having scored 44 goals from inside the box, the most by any player.
  • With 0.84 goals per game, he has the highest goals per game in the league.
  • Coro finds the back of the net in every 104 minutes, which is a record in itself and it stands as the least minutes per goal by any player who has played more than 15 matches in the league.
  • With his impeccable scoring standards, he has the best goal conversion rate for players with minimum 10 goals in the league, that is, 34.78.
  • He is the only player to score more than 10 goals in three consecutive seasons.

THE ASSIST MASTER

Ferran Corominas isn’t just a selfish striker who only scores goals. He has 64 goal contributions in 57 matches for FC Goa which is yet again the most by any player in the league. With 16 assists in the league, he is just two behind the all-time assist leader Marcelinho and third in the leaderboard. He is an all-round forward who strives with creative players around him. In a league where consistent goal-scoring is difficult, this man is on another level.

In his three seasons with FC Goa, Coro has helped the team win the Hero Super Cup and also the inaugural ISL League Winners Shield in 2019-20, after finishing top at the end of the league stage. The team also made history as they became the first team from India to qualify for the AFC Champions League.

With these crazy numbers and major honours, it’s impossible to believe that Ferran Corominas won’t feature in the ISL next season. He currently doesn’t feel valued at FC Goa and is a free player whose future is still not clear at the moment. Will he don the Goan jersey for yet another season? Surely, Juan Ferrando, FC Goa’s new boss will look to get the Spaniard’s services for his debut season in Indian football.
