List of Hero ISL Clubs On The Lookout For A New Manager

We’re just three months away from the start of the 2022-23 Hero ISL season and it’s weird to see that three clubs are still on the lookout for a new manager. We’ve seen before that sometimes clubs have already done the business in the transfer market but take longer to make a formal announcement. The fans of these clubs will be hoping for that to be the case but at this moment these teams remain without a manager.

JAMSHEDPUR FC

Jamshedpur FC announced a few months ago that their manager, Owen Coyle who led the Red Miners to their first-ever Hero ISL Shield last season will be leaving the club to join the Scottish Championship side, Queens Park FC.

Coyle had two brilliant seasons with Jamshedpur but sadly it’s time for the club to rebuild again. It has been reported that last season’s Hero of the League winner, Greg Stewart will be joining his former coach Coyle at Queens Park, even though it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

It seems to be a double whammy for Jamshedpur as not only do they have to replace the head coach, they need to find a replacement for the league’s best player, Stewart as well.

NORTHEAST UNITED FC

Khalid Jamil was outstanding with the limited resources he had at his disposal in the previous season but the Indian coach has joined the I-League second division club, FC Bengaluru United as the manager. Meaning NorthEast United are back to square one, looking for a proper replacement for Jamil and as always they have left the job far too late.

The squad is filled with promising but inexperienced Indian players who under the proper guidance can flourish in the league. So far in the league’s history, the Highlanders have lacked the consistency that their fans desire and this next appointment has to be a longer-term project.

SC EAST BENGAL

After struggling for the initial two seasons in the Hero ISL, things seemed to be back on track for the century-old club East Bengal when Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee announced that the Emami Group will be buying a majority stake at the club. But so far the deal hasn’t been struck yet and negotiations seem to be taking forever.

Till the time the club doesn’t sort its ownership pattern out, it is hard to believe that there would be a new manager appointed. In the previous two seasons as well, the club has waited until the very last minute to assemble a squad and their loyal fans will be hoping that this won’t be repeated ahead of the 2022-23 season.
