Hero ISL: Player Ratings From ATK Mohun Bagan vs Bengaluru FC

ATK Mohun Bagan vs Bengaluru FC was the 36th match of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21 and was played at the Fatorda Stadium. Antonio Lopez Habas outclassed his Spanish counterpart Carles Cuadrat as ATK Mohun Bagan got a deserved 1-0 win over the 2018-19 champions Bengaluru FC. David Williams scored the solitary goal of the match as the Kolkata giants ended Bengaluru’s unbeaten run in the competition.

In this piece, we’d see how the ATK Mohun Bagan players fared in this hotly contested match against the Blues.

David Williams broke his goal drought of the season as he found the back of the net for the first time in the season. He looked his usual sharp self in this match and it seems like his season is up and running post this big goal. The Australian loves to play against Bengaluru FC and he beat India’s great wall Gurpreet Singh Sandhu yet again to get the deserved three points for his team. For his sensational strike and his overall gameplay, David Williams gets a 9/10 for the shift he put in for this game.

The rock of the Mariners’ defence, Sandesh Jhingan was yet again super solid in ATK Mohun Bagan vs Bengaluru FC. He helped his side keep yet another clean sheet and ensured that their custodian Arindam Bhattacharja wasn’t troubled at all during the 90 minutes. The final 10 minutes saw Bengaluru FC pushing men forward in search of the equaliser but Jhingan and his defence were having none of it. For his rock-solid performance at the heart of the defence, Sandesh gets a much-deserved 8/10.

CARL McHUGH – 7.5/10

The mastermind in the midfield and the tackling expert, Carl McHugh was yet again on the top of his game in this match. The way he sits in front of the back four and screens them all the time is commendable. The Irishman is putting great performances after performances and there’s no stopping the midfielder. The ease with which he breaks play and wins his tackles in the midfield made sure that Bengaluru didn’t create anything substantial and it was a comfortable 1-0 win for the hosts. He wasn’t quite the hero of the match in this game and often his performances go under the radar but we rank him pretty high. His performance against Bengaluru FC earned him a 7.5/10 on our ranking charts.

The amount of hard work Antonio Lopez Habas demands from his midfielders is borderline crazy. It’s tough for any attacking midfielder to flourish in that system but it seems like Edu Garcia loves playing that attacking midfielder role in that team. Every time he gets the ball he looks to play the ball forward and find the runs of Roy Krishna or Williams. He adds the added bit of creativity required in that mid-block and is responsible for providing defence breaking passes for his team. He was yet again brilliant in this match and deservedly gets a 7/10 for his performance.

Roy Krishna is arguably the best player in the current season of the Hero ISL. The way he works hard for his team and scores when there is even half a chance for him makes him perfect for the Mariners. In this match, he wasn’t at his best but with those runs in behind the Bengaluru defence and his link-up play with Williams caused Carles Cuadrat’s men a lot of headaches. His telepathic communication with David Williams on the field are moments of magic, the duo gets the best out of each other. Even though he didn’t score in this match but the way he pressed the backline of the opposition, almost man marked Dimas Delgado for the majority of the match and for the sheer amount of hard work he put in, he gets a 7/10 on the ranking charts.

Special shout outs go to Subhasish Bose, Tiri and Manvir Singh. These three were also brilliant in this game and contributed to the final result of the match massively. They were on top of their games and worked extremely hard for the team. Habas would be delighted to see all these players coming to the party and how the season is panning out for the Mariners.
