Who Could Be The Potential Purple Cap Winner In 2021?

In the Indian T20 League, the Purple Cap is awarded to the player who has taken the maximum number of wickets through the course of the tournament. It’s usually the bowlers who decide the outcome of matches in T20 cricket as the batting units of both teams usually cancel each other out in terms of quality, and the championship-winning side usually has a few Purple Cap contenders in them who help them to flourish.

This is a trend that has been emerging in the Indian T20 League, where the bowlers who finish in the top four race for the Purple Cap award usually end up guiding their teams to the playoffs in the competition.

Here are five top bowlers who could have a big say in this year’s Purple Cap race.

India’s premier T20 bowler, Jasprit Bumrah has always been amongst wickets since his breakthrough season in 2016. He has consistently been fighting for the Purple Cap award every season and this year should be no different. He is Mumbai’s spearhead in the bowling attack and a lot will be depending on ‘Boom-Boom’ Bumrah if Mumbai were to make it a hat-trick of trophies in 2021

RASHID KHAN (Team Hyderabad)

One of the toughest T20 bowlers in the world, Rashid Khan is on top of his game in this competition. He has developed a reputation of being the gamechanger for Hyderabad and the opposition teams try to take the cautious approach against the Afghani spinner. Hyderabad have one of the strongest bowling attacks in the competition and because of Rashid’s x-factor, they are sure shot title contenders this season.

The defending Purple Cap champion, Kagiso Rabada would have his eyes set on taking the cap home for yet another season. He was the outstanding bowler from last season and guided his team to the final of the Indian T20 League for the first time in the franchises’ history. His partnership with his fellow South African pacer Anrich Nortje was the most lethal bowling duo in the league and Team Delhi would be hoping that they are able to continue that form in this season as well.

India’s most crafty spinner, R Ashwin stands an outside chance of winning the Purple Cap award this season. India is desperate to fix their first-choice spinner in T20Is ahead of the World Cup in October. Ashwin hasn’t played limited-overs international cricket since 2017 but the team needs his quality and T20 experience in such a competitive tournament. He seems like the first-choice spinner for Team Delhi and his ability to bamboozle the batter using various tricks he has acquired over the years will come in handy for him  in the race for the Purple Cap.

DWAYNE BRAVO (Team Chennai)

Lastly the GOAT of T20 bowling Dwayne Bravo would be gunning for the Purple Cap award himself. Having missed the majority of the previous season with an injury, Bravo would be out there in the yellow of Chennai looking to make amends. He is one of the most experienced T20 bowlers in the competition and uses that experience to perfect use in his quest for taking wickets and hopefully the Purple Cap award.
