It’s time to get our attention to another format to round off England’s tour of India as the IND vs ENG ODI series is all set to kick off at the Maharashtra Cricket Association, Stadium in Pune. The party now shifts to the city of Pune from Ahmedabad as the visitors would look to end the tour on winning ways.
So far the tour has been dominated by the home side as they clinched the Test series 3-1 and the T20I series went down to the wire, 3-2. They now take on the world champions in the format which is most suited for the Three Lions.
Let’s see how the IND vs ENG ODI series is shaping up.
SOME NEW FACES IN THE INDIAN SQUAD
There are some brand new faces that have been included in the Indian ODI squad as they start their preparation for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Karnataka’s fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya all get their maiden call up in the 50-over squad.
Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Siraj have all been drafted back into the squad and the ones who have got the axe are Mayank Agarwal, Manish Pandey, Navdeep Saini and Sanju Samson. While Jasprit Bumrah has been granted leave on account of his marriage. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja continue their rehab process.
There’s plenty of time for the team to build for the 2023 World Cup which will be hosted in India. They are up against the best in the business in England and it’ll be a good benchmark for the Indian team if they were to beat this English side.
PREDICTED INDIA XI: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, T Natarajan
ENGLAND OUT TO SHOW THEIR DOMINANCE
The world champions were rocked in the T20I series as they went on to lose the series decider comprehensively. Eoin Morgan led side are the runaway leaders when it comes to the aggressive style with which they play the format and it could be interesting to see the mindset the team is in ahead of this important series.
There are no doubts that England would look to finish the tour on a high. This three-match series could prove to be the perfect ending to what has been a particularly difficult tour for the visitors.
It will be important for them to get some crucial Cricket World Cup Super League points while the home team won’t be concerned about that as they already have a place in the World Cup as the status of being hosts.
Jofra Archer would be rested from the series as he is nursing an elbow injury.
PREDICTED ENGLAND XI: Jason Roy, Johnny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley
The Pune wicket historically has been on the slower side with spinners enjoying plenty of turn on the track. These two sides played a cracker of a match back in 2017 when India managed to chase down a mammoth total of 350 courtesy of twin hundreds by Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav.
India have managed to win only two times in four games at the MCA Stadium, something which they’ll like to improve in this series.
