The KKR vs MI fixture will see Kolkata Knight Riders beginning their campaign in the Indian Premier League 2020 by taking on the defending champions, Mumbai Indians at Abu Dhabi. Both these teams will share the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi as their home ground for the remainder of the competition.
It has been a one way street in previous KKR vs MI matches, as the four-time champions Mumbai Indians have been super dominant over the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR can be considered as MI’s bunny in the IPL as they have lost 16 matches out of the 25 against Mumbai, with just a weak percentage of 24.
In the previous five KKR vs MI matches too, the result has been more or less familiar. Mumbai have won four out of the five previous matches between the two and will look to continue their dominance over the Knight Riders. Last time these two sides clashed in Abu Dhabi was back in 2014 when Sunil Narine registered the best-ever bowling figures at the venue. KKR and their off-spinner will take that positive coming into this game.
Andre Russell vs Kieron Pollard
This will be a battle between two swashbuckling West Indian all-rounders to find out who is the stronger of the two. These two power hitters are considered as two of the most destructive T20 batsmen in the world.
Since 2018, Andre Russell is considered as one of the most successful all-rounders in the IPL. Between overs 11-20, Dre Russ strikes at 203.47, which is the second best in the IPL in the past two years. If he is batting at the business end of the KKR innings then expect him to unleash his might on the Mumbai Indians.
Kieron Pollard comes into this IPL on the back of winning the Man of the Series in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Against the current KKR bowlers, only Sunil Narine and Pat Cummins have dismissed him on one occasion each. If he gets past the initial 20 runs, then given the form he is currently in, expect him to score more than 66.50.
PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
England white-ball captain, Eoin Morgan is in sublime form leading to this IPL. He’s hitting the ball better than he has ever done in his career. With the conditions we’ve witnessed so far in the IPL, expect Morgan to be dominant in the initial phase of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma looked in nice touch in the match against the Chennai Super Kings. The next opponent is a familiar one for Sharma and he has a brilliant record against KKR. He has scored 824 runs against KKR, at an average of 45.77, his personal best against any IPL team.
