A test of character awaits us in the clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad (KKR vs SRH) as both teams will be looking to get off the mark early in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). The Sunrisers Hyderabad have had four days to figure out what went wrong for them in their opening encounter whereas Kolkata Knight Riders have a quick turnaround after a tough outing in their first match against the Mumbai Indians.
The KKR vs SRH fixture over the years has been tilted in the favour of the Knight Riders as they’ve managed to win 10 times in 17 matches. This rivalry seems evenly matched though as the Sunrisers have won three out of the last five encounters. There’s been a trend this IPL that teams are hesitant to bat first so expect the captain who wins the toss to put the opposition in for batting.
Shubman Gill vs Jonny Bairstow
The battle of the two openers can be the key to decide the outcome of this match. Shubman Gill could score only 7 runs off 11 balls against Mumbai Indians in their season opener. Though it wasn’t a good start, all eyes will be set on his performance in the upcoming match. He’s an important player if KKR are to have a successful IPL campaign. His record against SRH isn’t the best but he’ll look to turn it around.
Bairstow scored 61 off 43 balls at a strike rate of 141.86 in the last match against RCB. He was the top scorer for SRH in that match. Jonny Bairstow has been one of the best batsmen for SRH over the years. He has scored 506 runs and has the best average amongst SRH players at 56.22.
PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Sunrisers’ captain David Warner was unlucky in the way he got out in the first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Expect him to cash in the match against KKR as the team is extremely dependent on his opening partnership with Bairstow.
Sunil Narine hasn’t had great performances in the last few IPL seasons but looked much better in their season opener against MI. He scalped 1 wicket, giving away 22 runs in his four-over spell and was the most economical bowler in the KKR bowling line-up. For him to complete a player performance of over 37.50, Narine needs to satisfy either of these criteria. Needs to pick two wickets or one wicket and minimum 18 runs. Seems likely that he can achieve this given the fact that he opens the batting for KKR.
KKR: Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (WK) (C), Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Nikhil Naik, Pat Cummins, Kuldeep Yadav, Shivam Mavi, Sandeep Warrier
SRH: Jonny Bairstow (WK), David Warner (C), Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, Priyam Garg, Mohammed Nabi, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, T Natarajan
