Marcus Stoinis to Russell: All-rounders Who Can Steal the Show

The Indian T20 League is blessed with some world-class all-rounders from all over the globe looking to provide the much-needed balance to their respective teams. Players like Marcus Stoinis, Ben Stokes and a chosen few have their worth in gold and can win a couple of games just by themselves. They are the X-factor that all the teams are on the lookout for to solidify their chances of winning the coveted trophy.

Here we take a look at five all-rounders who can have an impact in the 2021 season.

MARCUS STOINIS (Team Delhi)

Team Delhi reached its very first final of the Indian T20 League in the previous season and Stoinis was a major reason for that. He was at his best throughout the tournament and finished many innings in style. On most occasions, Delhi took the momentum going into the innings break courtesy of Marcus Stoinis.

In the Big Bash League, Stoinis usually opens the innings for the Melbourne Stars and has done exceptionally well at the top of the order. Delhi would certainly keep that in consideration going into the tournament. With the ball he is underrated and batters tend to go after him and lose their wickets.

HARDIK PANDYA (Team Mumbai)

The best news for Team Mumbai this year is that Hardik Pandya is bowling fit again and has bowled well for the national team coming into this season. Last year, Mumbai managed to win the trophy without the services of Hardik the bowler so you can imagine how much confidence they’d be in for making it a hat-trick of trophies with him back bowling.

Hardik the batsman is unparalleled in Indian cricket. His ability to strike sixes at the back end of the innings is remarkable. When the situation demands, he can get his head down and play a mature inning as well. He is by far India’s best all-rounder.

DAN CHRISTIAN (Team Bangalore)

Dan Christian may soon be 38-years-old, but he seems at the peak of his T20 career. He adds an immense amount of experience to the Bangalore side with 347 T20 matches under his belt. He has been a pivotal player in many winning teams recently and sure knows what it takes to be the champions of a tournament.

He is easily a two-over bowler but on his day can give the captain his full quota of four overs as well. With the bat, he is one of the best finishers going around in the T20 circuit and Bangalore must use him on pitches that are good for batting.

BEN STOKES (Team Rajasthan)

Now coming to probably the most complete all-rounder in world cricket, Ben Stokes. He seemed lost in the England T20I side as he was batting way too low in the order. It looks like Rajasthan have decided that Stokes will open the innings for them alongside another Englishman, Jos Buttler. This could be the most lethal opening partnership in the tournament.

With the ball, Stokes will have to up his game given that last year’s MVP Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the first part of the competition. Rajasthan’s bowling looks like their weak link at this point and Stokes could be the key for them this season.

ANDRE RUSSELL (Team Kolkata)

The most devastating batsman in the format has to be Andre Russell. He had an outstanding campaign in the 2019 season but struggled to keep himself fit in the previous one. He was nowhere close to 100% fitness and it hampered Kolkata’s chances of progressing in the tournament.

Ahead of this season, he has been working tremendously hard on making sure he is fit for the entire length of the tournament. With the ball he is a wicket-taking option, one Eoin Morgan would love using in the middle phase of the innings to get him crucial breakthroughs.
