The 2021 Indian T20 League is heading into an interesting phase where every point is vital for the qualification scenario of different teams. Even though the second leg is just in its fourth week, with this being the second phase, no team can ease into this leg. Teams need points now if they are aiming for a top-four finish in the league table. Hence players like Ravindra Jadeja become key at such crucial points as they can play clutch innings like the one he played against Team Kolkata and get his team over the line from near-impossible situations.
With another important gameweek about to begin in the 2021 Indian T20 League, we are looking at four matchups that would be key in these four games.
VARUN CHAKRAVARTHY vs SHIKHAR DHAWAN
(TEAM KOLKATA vs TEAM DELHI)
Eoin Morgan’s Team Kolkata have made it a habit to start with spin in the powerplay and finish the innings with pacers. The only reason why this strategy has been successful is that they have two spinners in Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine who have the control and variations to keep the batters quiet in the powerplay and by doing so they get crucial wickets up front.
In the match against Team Delhi, Kolkata would be up against two high-quality openers in Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw. The former has had a troubled outing against the mystery spin of Chakravarthy in the Indian T20 League. Dhawan perished to Chakravarthy the first time he played him and since then, in 20 deliveries, he has managed to get only 19 runs against the spinner. Expect Morgan to start with Chakravarthy against Dhawan this time around as well.
JASPRIT BUMRAH vs MAYANK AGARWAL
(TEAM MUMBAI vs TEAM PUNJAB)
Mayank Agarwal has been in decent form this Indian T20 League but he’ll be up against his nemesis in Jasprit Bumrah who has got the better of the Punjab opener three times in five previous matches. Agarwal has struggled to cope with the top-class ability of Bumrah with the new ball, as in 14 balls he has managed just 6 runs and got out to the Indian pacer three times.
SANJU SAMSON vs MOHAMMED SIRAJ
(TEAM RAJASTHAN vs TEAM BANGALORE)
Team Rajasthan’s captain Sanju Samson is due a big match-winning knock but he’ll be up against Team Bangalore’s Mohammed Siraj who has got his number twice already in his Indian T20 League career. Sanju has tried to hit his way out of trouble against Siraj but ‘Miyaan Bhai’ has relished that challenge and got the Rajasthan captain out twice in three previous matches.
MANISH PANDEY vs RAVINDRA JADEJA
(TEAM HYDERABAD vs TEAM CHENNAI)
Ravindra Jadeja is in the form of his life whether it is with bat or ball. MS Dhoni is turning to him when his team needs a breakthrough and so far Jadeja has delivered. Expect Jadeja to be handed the ball against Team Hyderabad’s middle-order batter Manish Pandey as the left-arm spinner has been on top of Pandey in his Indian T20 League career. Jadeja has delivered 41 balls to Pandey who has struggled to get runs off the spinner and in these 41 balls, he has managed to get out to him twice with just 36 runs to his name. Jadeja would be confident of getting his man yet again in this fixture.
