Gayle to McCullum: Highest Individual Scores in Indian T20 League

Over the 14 years of the Indian T20 League, we’ve witnessed some remarkable innings that have made us sit in awe and just admire. The league is a melting pot of the best talents in the business coming together to showcase their real qualities to the world. Chris Gayle in 2013 flexed his muscles so hard that his 175* has never been beaten in any T20 cricket tournament.

Along with Chris Gayle’s stormy knock at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, there were four other exceptional innings that stand as the league’s highest ever individual scores. Here’s a look at them.

CHRIS GAYLE (175* vs TEAM PUNE)

The ‘Gayle Storm’ officially hit Bengaluru back in 2013 and had devastating effects on the Pune bowlers. Whatever was dished out by the Pune bowlers was smashed out of the park by Chris Gayle in his record-breaking 175*. He broke all the batting records in T20 cricket on that day as he smacked 17 sixes and 13 fours in that innings. This innings to date remains as the highest-ever individual score in T20 cricket and we doubt that anybody can come close to that anytime soon.

BRENDON MCCULLUM (158* vs TEAM BANGALORE)

For this innings, we need to jog back our memory to the first-ever match in the Indian T20 League in 2008, which ensured that this tournament will become the monster that it currently is. Brendon McCullum was a relatively unknown name in world cricket but after he scored this 158* at the Chinnaswamy, he automatically became a household name among the 1.3 billion fans in this country.

He smashed the Bangalore bowlers all over the park and reached his 158* in just 73 deliveries.

AB DE VILLIERS (133* vs TEAM MUMBAI)

Mr 360 is the only batter to feature twice in this list and nobody should be surprised by that. He is also the only batter in this list who isn’t a top-order batter and it’s purely down to his quality. He loves batting at the Wankhede Stadium and this was one of those occasions where he enjoyed himself.

He scored 133* off just 59 balls and helped his team reach a mammoth total of 235/1.

KL RAHUL (132* vs TEAM BANGALORE)

‘Klassy’ Rahul has been amongst the Orange Cap holders for some seasons now. In the previous season at Dubai, he was at his lethal best against Team Bangalore. He was dropped once by the Indian captain Virat Kohli in his innings of 132* and he made sure that he made the opposition pay for that drop catch.

He smashed seven sixes and 14 classy fours in this brilliant knock.

AB DE VILLIERS (129* vs TEAM GUJARAT)

It’s that man AB de Villiers again and his strike rate of 248.07 tells you how devastating he was back in 2016 against Team Gujarat. Chinnaswamy witnessed a masterclass of six-hitting by their favourite duo as ABD hit 12 sixes during his 129* and Virat Kohli, on the other end, also notched up a remarkable century. Bangalore posted 248/3 on the board and in reply Gujarat fell short of 25 runs from AB’s total of 129 as they were bundled out for just 104.
