Buttler To Cummins: Stars Who Will Miss Indian T20 League Phase 2

The second phase of the Indian T20 League 2021 is about to kickstart in less than a fortnight. The fans are gearing up for the best in the business to assemble in the UAE and deliver non-stop entertainment. Some marquee players like Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes however, would be missing from this spectacle as they have pulled out of the second phase due to various reasons.

Here in this piece, we’re looking at five such stars who would be greatly missed in this second phase of the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League.

JOS BUTTLER

One of the stars of the Indian T20 League and T20 cricket in general, Jos Buttler would not be making the trip to the UAE to put on the colours of Team Rajasthan. The English wicketkeeper batter has pulled out of the second phase as his wife and he is expecting their second child during that time. Buttler would be sorely missed as he was the seventh-highest run-getter in the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League.

BEN STOKES

Another player who won’t be representing Team Rajasthan in the second phase is England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes. Rajasthan have built their team around these core English players but unfortunately for them, Stokes is on break from the sport owing to his mental well-being and also to let his injured finger heal that he injured in the Indian T20 League itself.

JHYE RICHARDSON

Team Punjab spent the big bucks in the auction to acquire the services of Australia’s fast bowler Jhye Richardson. The Aussie quick had a tough start to life in the Indian T20 League but Punjab would have been hoping for him to come good in the latter half of the tournament. However, this would no longer be possible due to Richardson pulling out of the second phase.

RILEY MEREDITH

Another bowler who Team Punjab backed in this edition was Australian spearhead, Riley Meredith. The fast bowler also endured a tough start much like his fellow countrymen but was growing with confidence in the competition. He had picked up four wickets in five matches and was starting to get acclimatized to life in the league, but he too is unavailable for this second leg.

PAT CUMMINS

Pat Cummins is probably one of the biggest names on this list of players who would miss this second phase. Cummins was one of the first names on the team sheet for Team Kolkata and the bowler who is regarded as one of the best in the modern world would be dearly missed by the fans. In seven matches, Cummins had picked up nine wickets and was having a strong campaign but his partner and he is also expecting a child bang in the middle of that period and due to hard quarantine laws in Australia, he too won’t be able to make his trip to the UAE for the second leg.
