Boult vs Gill: Top Matchups to Look Out For in Second Week

The second week of the Indian T20 League 2021 second leg is about to kick off in the UAE and all eyes will move to the player battles to watch out for in the coming week. It would all start with Trent Boult going head-on with the new ball against Kolkata’s opener Shubman Gill trying to knock his stumps out.

Along with this matchup, there are a few others from each fixture that could be match-defining.

(Team Mumbai vs Team Kolkata)

Trent Boult was yet again fantastic with the new ball in the first game of the second leg against Team Chennai. He made the new ball talk and got the openers out cheaply. In Mumbai’s next game, Boult would be up against Shubman Gill who got some valuable runs under his belt in the previous match against Team Bangalore. Both these players have come up against each other four times previously with Boult coming out on top on one occasion. The stat to look at here is that in the 20 balls Gill has faced off Boult, he has managed to accumulate only 15 runs. It tells you how much of a hold Boult has had over the Indian opener.

(Team Bangalore vs Team Chennai)

Team Bangalore would be hoping to forget the previous match they played against Team Kolkata. They’d be hoping to see their young and dynamic opener Devdutt Padikkal give them a solid start. To counter Devdutt’s brilliance, Chennai have Shardul Thakur up their sleeves. The pace bowler has the knack of picking key wickets. He has come up against Padikkal only once previously and got the better of the Bangalore opener. He’d be hoping to repeat that feat in this match as well.

(Team Delhi vs Team Rajasthan)

It’s good to see Avesh Khan back fit and running in hard. In the Northern Derby, Team Delhi would be banking on their pacer Avesh Khan to come good against the opposition captain, Sanju Samson. Rajasthan’s captain Samson has come up against Avesh only once before with the pacer getting him out with just the second ball he bowled at him. Samson would be hoping to change it in this game while Delhi would look to get Avesh on as soon as Sanju comes out to bat.

(Team Hyderabad vs Team Punjab)

Team Hyderabad had a tough first phase of the Indian T20 League 2021 season but their captain Kane Williamson would be hoping to change their fortunes with his form. He’ll be up against Team Punjab’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami. The Indian pacer has got the better of the Kiwi captain two times in the four matches he has come up against him in the Indian T20 League. Williamson has tried to take him on to be fair as his strike rate is above 150 against the pacer. This will be an intriguing matchup to look out for from this game.
