Avesh Khan to Raj Bawa: Uncapped Players Who Could Be in Demand

For some years now, we’ve seen how an uncapped Indian player can be key for an Indian T20 League franchise in a season. Last season it was Ruturaj Gaikwad and Avesh Khan, this season it could be the chance for someone else.

Here we’ve got five Indian uncapped players who will need special attention at the auction table this time around.

AVESH KHAN (Bowler)

Avesh Khan was absolutely outstanding in the previous season for Team Delhi with the ball and finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the season. Since then, he has been on a couple of important away tours with the national team as a standby player. Bowling in the nets to the class of the Indian batters would only propel his game.

He can bowl at a decent pace, swing, seam and bowl with accuracy. His base price is just 20 lakhs and could easily go for an unreal multiplier in the mega auction. He is one of the most sought after uncapped Indian players.

RAHUL TEWATIA (All-Rounder)

T20 as a format has always rewarded players who are multidimensional with their skills. One such value pick at the auction this year would be Haryana’s all-rounder Rahul Tewatia. The leg-spinning all-rounder shot into the limelight in the 2020 season in the UAE when he smashed Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over to get his team over the line at Sharjah.

Since then, Tewatia was included in the T20I side for a couple of series but didn’t get an opportunity to make his full Indian debut. Tewatia has played in the league for seven seasons now and brings valuable experience to any side. Given how much wrist spinners usually go for, the Tewatia family should expect a big payday coming up pretty soon.

SHAHRUKH KHAN (Batter)

One name that has consistently made headlines in the domestic circuit has been Tamil Nadu’s, Shahrukh Khan. This domestic season as well, he showed his prowess as a finisher in limited-overs cricket.

Finding a big-hitting lower-order batter is quite cumbersome for any franchise and in Shahrukh, these teams are getting a finisher who is ready to execute his skills at the biggest stage. He was recently added to the ODI squad for the series against the Windies but for now, remains an uncapped player. He is highly rated in domestic circles and there are high chances that he could trigger a bidding war at the auction table.

KARTIK TYAGI (Bowler)

Finding an Indian bowler who can consistently clock over 140 kmph is not easy. Kartik Tyagi has shown in the past that he is ready to deliver at the Indian T20 League stage. Tyagi, who was a part of India’s tour to Australia as a net bowler came into his own in the 2021 season where he famously defended four runs off the last over in a match against Team Punjab.

He is ready to be a leader of an attack provided he remains injury-free. Nevertheless, players of his skills are scarce at the auction hence Tyagi is one to look out for.

RAJ BAWA (All-Rounder)

With the success of the Indian Under-19 team in the Caribbean, many franchises would be looking to grab hold of a few of these upcoming stars early. One such uncut gem is all-rounder Raj Bawa.

The right-arm pacer bowls a hard length and is difficult to score off. He grabbed a crucial five-wicket haul in the final against England and has a decent hitting ability with the bat. He has shown that he can hit the ball far into the stands and is an exciting talent, worth taking a punt on.
