Dot balls are like gold dust in the T20 format and the teams who have bowlers who can deliver the most dot balls tend to be successful in the competition. We saw exactly that happening in the 2021 season as well, Avesh Khan who ended up with the most dot balls in the season had his team finish on the top of the league table.
Here are the five bowlers who had the most dot balls in the 2021 season. The good news for Indian cricket fans is that all five are domestic talents.
AVESH KHAN (156 DOT BALLS)
It has been a dream season for Avesh Khan with the ball. The Delhi pacer had 24 wickets to his name but the number 156 is the more important figure. 156 is the number of dots delivered by Avesh Khan in the season and he leads the way with the most number of dot balls.
VARUN CHAKRAVARTHY (149 DOT BALLS)
There was just one match in the season where Team Kolkata’s spinner, Varun Chakravarthy went for more than 26 runs in his quota of four overs. With the pace and guile with which Chakravarthy bowls, it is almost impossible to smash him for massive runs. Even rotation of strike is difficult against the mystery spinner and it proved this season as he finished as the bowler with the second most number of dot balls; 149.
MOHAMMED SIRAJ (147 DOT BALLS)
One of the most improved players in Indian cricket over the past year or so has been pacer Mohammed Siraj. International exposure at the Test level has done a world of good for Team Bangalore’s pacer and it showed in this season of the Indian T20 League. He is no longer the erratic Siraj but we saw a much calmer bowler who had the confidence to deliver the ball wherever he wanted to. 147 dot balls show the kind of impact he had on this season.
MOHAMMED SHAMI (145 DOT BALLS)
Even though Team Punjab had a tough season in the league, one bowler who stood out for them was Mohammed Shami with both the new ball as well as in the death overs. Shami had a lethal partnership with Arshdeep Singh with the ball and the duo took plenty of wickets in the process. Shami’s form is key for Team India in the coming World Cup and it was good to see the pacer back to his best in the Indian T20 League.
JASPRIT BUMRAH (142 DOT BALLS)
Ever since the 2017 season, Jasprit Bumrah has been a regular feature in the list of bowlers with the most dot balls. Bumrah’s odd action makes him difficult to score off and as a result, he gets plenty of dot balls. He wasn’t at his lethal best this season but still did enough to be the bowler with the fifth most dot balls in the season with 142 to his name.
