After playing some outstanding Test cricket for two years, the Indian cricket team finished runners-up in the inaugural season of the World Test Championship. Team India would like to put the disappointment of Southampton behind them briskly and move on as the 2021-23 World Test Championship schedule has been announced for Team India.
It starts with a five-match Test series against England starting August and will finish with a tour of Bangladesh. Let’s look at all these series in detail as the team gears up for the 2021-23 World Test Championship cycle.
INDIA’S TOUR OF ENGLAND
It all begins in the country where the dream of lifting an ICC trophy got shattered for Virat Kohli and Co. The team is currently in England preparing for a five-match Test series against the Three Lions. The series is planned to get started on August 4 at Trent Bridge and the last Test match would begin on September 10 at Manchester. India haven’t won a Test series in the United Kingdom since 2007 and Kohli’s men would fancy their chances against an English team that is there for the taking.
NEW ZEALAND’S TOUR OF INDIA
After the five-match series in England, the focus would shift towards the reigning ICC World Test Champions, New Zealand. The Black Caps would travel to India in November 2021 and Team India would be out for revenge as they lost all three matches against the Kiwis in the previous cycle. It will be a two-match series between the current first and second-ranked Test teams.
INDIA’S TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA
Subsequent to playing a two-match Test series against New Zealand, the Indian cricket team will travel to South Africa. The previous series in South Africa was a closely fought affair with the Proteas emerging winners by the barest of margins, 2-1. This would be a three-match series between the two nations scheduled to begin in December 2021.
SRI LANKA’S TOUR OF INDIA
Just prior to the Indian T20 League 2022 season, it will be a clash of two neighbouring countries as Sri Lanka will tour India for a three-match Test series. The Lankan Lions are going through a tough time currently but they’d be hoping to be competitive in the 2021-23 World Test Championship cycle.
AUSTRALIA’S TOUR OF INDIA
The highly-anticipated and hotly-contested Border Gavaskar trophy will be held in India from October 2022 to November 2022. Australia would travel for a four-match Test series hoping to get revenge on the team which has beaten them twice on their home turf.
INDIA’S TOUR OF BANGLADESH
And finally, to sum it all up, Team India will end the 2021-23 World Test Championship cycle with a two-match Test series in Bangladesh. If the last World Test Championship is anything to go by then India could have a decisive series in Bangladesh if they are to qualify for the final yet another time.
