After the successful tour of England for the Indian Women’s team, the real test lies ahead as they travel to the country down under, Australia in September, for yet another multi-format series. Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad who missed the England tour due to a knee injury is making a comeback to the national team.
India have included two uncapped players in Meghna Singh and Yastika Bhatia in all three formats whereas Renuka Singh who is yet another uncapped player has been included in the T20I side.
The 22 playing personnel selected for the Australia tour have been spread across an 18-member consolidated squad for the three ODIs and the one-off pink-ball Test, and a 17-player squad for the three-match T20I series. The additional players are selected to keep cover for Gayakwad and Harmanpreet Kaur, both of whom are recovering from their respective injuries in Bengaluru currently.
India’s T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur had to cut short her campaign in the Hundred due to a quad issue. She is currently at the National Cricket Academy undergoing her quarantine requirements.
Wicketkeeper-batter Indrani Roy, top-order batter Priya Punia and medium-pacer Simran Bahadur, who were part of the 21-member squad that toured England, have been left out from the Australian tour.
This multi-format tour begins with a three-match ODI series starting in Sydney and the next two in Melbourne. The teams would then move to the ultimate match, a pink-ball day and night Test match at a fast and bouncy Perth. The series would then be concluded with a three-match T20I series between two sides that played the T20 World Cup final in 2020.
