Everything You Need to Know Heading into the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2022

India Women, after prevailing over England, now prepare for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, which will take place in Bangladesh. A captivating display, followed by an emotional farewell to Indian seamer Jhulan Goswami, has set the stage for India Women to fight for the title of Asia’s champions.

As we head into the battle for Asian supremacy, here are some key pointers concerning the Women in Blue and their competition.

Harmanpreet and Mandhana on song

The dynamic duo of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana are in a rich vein of form as they continue to shine for India Women with the bat. The two hard hitters emerged as the highest scoring batters in the recently concluded ODI series against England. They will remain crucial for India Women in terms of setting high totals and chasing big targets.

Deepti Sharma’s wit will come in handy

Following the controversial ‘Mankading’ of English cricketer Charlie Dean, Deepti Sharma has been making headlines as the fans and pundits continue to give mixed opinions about India’s series sweep. Sharma’s presence of mind was hailed by the Indian supporters as her wit helped India win the third ODI in a herculean effort.

Safe to say, her wit will be required in the upcoming Asia Cup as well against some of Asia’s best nations.

Bangladesh in a fiery form

The defending champions and the hosts of the 2022 Asia Cup, Bangladesh are in imperious form. Bangladesh have not tasted defeat since March 2022 against England Women. They went on to beat the likes of Ireland, UAE, Scotland and Thailand in the following fixtures. The likes of Jahanara Alam, Fargana Hoque and Fariha Trisna are set to return for their national team as they prepare for the title defence.

It will be instructive to see how India Women fare against the reigning champions of Asia on October 8th.

Doing better than the Men’s team

The Men in Blue didn’t live upto expectations in the Super Four, despite being the favourites to clinch the title. Now, it is up to India Women to bring back the glory of being champions of Asia as they gear up for the 2022 edition. With a lot on the line, the fans will be praying for the Women in Blue as they prepare for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
